Bike for Dr Graham's Homes fundraisers

The man who started it all

Mr John Webster was at one time the farm manager and chaplain at Dr Grahams Homes. Even after he left his heart was still with the Homes and has been tirelessly fundraising for the homes doing numerous marathons and biking events. It was on a trip to Bhutan with his son where the idea was conceived to do a bicyle fundraiser for the homes. Shortly after the Bhutan trip the first Bike for DGH fundraiser happened in 2006 from Kolkota to Kalimpong covering some 400 miles.  Since then there have been 3 additional bike fundraisers from Kolkota to Kalimpong, 2 from Kathmandu to Kalimpong and one from Paro, Bhutan to Siliguri in 2017. The 2020 ride will be the 7th Bike for DGH fundraiser and the second time from Bhutan to Kalimpong.  Prior Bike for DGH fundraisers have raised thousands of dollars for the homes. A few examples of where past fundraisers have been used for:

* 2007 choir trip to the U.K. for over 25 children and staff

* 2012 Earthquake repairs to the campus infrastructure

* Sponsorships of children

In 2017 now in his early 80's John organized and did the final bicycling fundraiser and has passed the baton on to others to continue this charitable fun event. His dream was to always have more alumni (OGB) members involved in the bike rides and even better yet to take charge to organize this.

The 2022 bike ride will raise funds for the alumni run Global OGBs (www.dghobs.com) association which has been at the forefront of renovations of the cottages and other infrastructure-related projects at the school. Participants from the U.K. will have the option to donate 50% of the funds raised towards the U.K. DGH committee's child sponsorship funds.
